Director of Music Ministry
Sydenstricker United Methodist Church in Springfield, Va. is an active, mission-oriented church seeking a full-time (32 hours a week) Director of Music Ministries. The yearly salary range starts at $50.000.00 depending on knowledge, skills, and abilities. Benefits include personal time off, retirement, medical insurance, and continuing education. The successful candidate is an individual of Christian faith with training and experience in choral and hand bell direction. The Director of Music Ministries is responsible for direction, implementation, scheduling, and enhancements of the Music Ministries at Sydenstricker. There is no relocation allowance for this position.
This position works closely with the Senior Pastor to provide a passionate meaningful worship where people experience God. All musicians providing music for the worship services work under the direction of the Director of Music Ministry. This staff position is responsible for all musical performance groups and individuals within the church. This position is to ensure all involved receive adequate direction, leadership, instruction, practice, and performance. This position must be able to work with those across the broad spectrum of ages, musical abilities, and worship experience levels.
Qualifications needed:
A professing Christian and member in good standing in a congregation
A bachelors’ degree of music with choral or vocal emphasis
Demonstrated experience in direction of adult and children’s choral ensembles with all levels of musical experience and abilities
Experience in playing and directing handbells
Ability to listen to and communicate with people of all ages and musical backgrounds
Interest in a wide range of musical experiences
Desire to build and grow adult, youth, and children’s vocal and bell groups
Strong piano and accompaniment skills a plus

Position Schedule
· This position has a flexible schedule with some definite requirements:
o Tuesday a.m. staff meeting
o Wednesday evening children’s choir/bells (TBD)
o Thursday evening adult bells and adult choir practices
o Sunday morning 2 services and a 5 p.m. service
All special services throughout the liturgical year
