Mosaic Church is a 2-year-old church plant in urban Grand Rapids, planted with the Evangelical Covenant Church denomination. We meet at the Seidman Boys & Girls Club on Sunday mornings. We are a multi-ethnic church and have a multi-ethnic leadership team and staff, but are praying and working toward becoming more multi-ethnic. We want to be a safe and hospitable place for all ethnicities, and particularly the Latino and African-American communities who populate most of our church neighborhood.

We are looking to hire an associate pastor with the future hope of transitioning our church leadership model into a co-senior pastor model. In a co-senior pastor model, our current senior pastor, Noah Filipiak (who is white), and this associate pastor will work together and both serve as senior pastors with equal authority. We believe that having multi-ethnic leadership at the highest level of authority, the senior pastor position, is key to being a healthy multi-ethnic church. We also believe that the co-senior pastor model is healthier for the church so it’s not dependent on one central leader and is healthier for the pastors as it provides a team to share the load of pastoral ministry with, making ministry more sustainable.

We encourage you to visit our Mosaic staff and leadership page to acquaint yourself with Pastor Noah and the rest of our Leadership Team and staff: https://www.mosaicgr.org/the-team

This candidate will:

  • Need to be highly proficient in their preaching gift. They will preach every other week.
  • Need another substantial form of income either from themselves or from a spouse. This position will remain a ½ time position for the foreseeable future.
  • Need to have the skills and mindset of a church planter, being well-connected with a local network they can recruit into Mosaic and/or have the skills to connect with new people to bring into the church, particularly in a way that helps Mosaic grow more multi-ethnic.
  • Be well-rounded in pastoral gifts of shepherding, counseling, administration, program development, group oversight, and so on.
  • Fill in volunteer gaps where needed (e.g. greeters, kids ministry, setup team, etc.)
  • Help make our lead pastoral team (of senior pastor & associate pastor) multi-ethnic.

This position is:

  • Open to men and women candidates.
  • A 20-hour a week position. This includes roughly 4 hours on a Sunday morning and then 16 hours during the week of office and pastoral ministry.

Seminary education is welcomed, but not required. Openness to beginning a part-time seminary program (one class per semester) is required if candidate doesn’t currently have a seminary degree.

Please send resumé and a preaching video or audio recording to Pastor Noah Filipiak nfilipiak@mosaicgr.org. If you do not have a preaching recording, please create one for this application process.
