The Pastor of Adult Ministries will have a God-dependent heart and the gifting necessary to assist in increasing spiritual impact and influence for Jesus in the congregation, the city, and the world.

Job Description

Staff Vision

The Pastor of Adult Ministries will support and assist the Senior Pastor, other pastors and ministry directors in their vision of leading a movement focused on finding the lost and equipping the found to become committed followers of Jesus who are sent into the world exhibiting both passion and compassion for those far from God.

Job Responsibilities

The Pastor of Adult Ministries is a spiritual and organizational leader who is responsible for leading and overseeing the adult discipleship ministries of River Valley Alliance Church both internally and externally.

 

Job Duties

Internal focus

    -Preaching – join the senior pastor in planning and presenting

    -Group Ministry – Support Men’s ministries/Women’s ministries/Community Groups

    -Instructional discipleship - Adult Bible studies/classes.  Set up an instructional climate where people are trained to be disciples who make disciples

    -Visitation – Oversee and participate in visitation

    -Counseling – Refer people as necessary. Administrate any programs that may develop. 

    -Service Planning and Technology – Assist as needed

 

External focus

    -Community Outreach – Work with Acts 1:8 ministries and serve as the communication point with the congregation

    -Outward facing groups – Support any ministries that have the goal of community outreach. (e.g. through Sports, music, etc.)

    -Marketing – Assist the Senior Pastor and office staff in keeping the community aware of River Valley’s existence and mission.

    -Hospitality – Facilitate a welcoming atmosphere at Sunday worship services through example.  Provide opportunities for the congregation to observe hospitality in action.

 

Qualifications

Professional:

Necessary training/experience to accomplish assigned duties
Bachelor degree required. Masters with Bible emphasis preferred
Willingness to stay current on technology updates
Able to protect people’s privacy and know the importance of confidentiality
Licensable by Christian & Missionary Alliance
Ordaining or pursuing ordination
Experience preferred

 

Spiritual:

A demonstrated follower of Jesus Christ who is actively growing in their personal relationship with Him, as evidenced by devotion, action, attitude, and behavior
Endorsement and support of River Valley and its mission as well as the ministries of the worldwide work of the C&MA
In keeping with the RVAC Employee Handbook, all of River Valley’s employees are considered ministers of the Gospel of Jesus Christ as described by the Christian & Missionary Alliance and perform the following ministerial functions:

To answer basic questions about the Church’s faith
To provide internal religious resources (e.g. pastoral counseling, small groups, GriefShare)
To pray with those who request prayer

A committed belief that prayer is the heart and necessity of all ministry.

Common Ministerial Duties for Pastor of Adult Ministries:

Religious Exemption - In the performance of their responsibilities, every employee at River Valley Alliance Church contributes to carrying out the religious mission of the Church as established in the Manual of The Christian and Missionary Alliance and the governing documents of the Church.

Serves in a ministry position by providing spiritual, ministry, and administrative functions for the accomplishment of River Valley’s mission and the effectiveness of its ministries.
Serves as a role model for spiritual maturity in accordance with the Christian beliefs of River Valley.
Performs other duties related to ministry functions as set forth from time to time in the Employee Handbook, or as appropriate to participate in, and contribute to the leadership of, the exercise and expression of Christian beliefs.

Organization Description

River Valley Alliance Church in Watertown, Wisconsin is a vibrant and growing family of Jesus followers who are being transformed and empowered.  Watertown is a town of nearly 24,000 people located exactly in the middle between Milwaukee and Madison.  The church has a staff of 2 pastors, a children's ministry director and 1 office staff.  About 300 people worship each Sunday.
