Senior Pastor

Job Description

Spooner Wesleyan church, located in a small town in Northwest Wisconsin, is seeking a full time pastor to be initially hired as our Discipleship Pastor with a gradual transition to our Lead Pastor within two years. Through prayerful consideration and guidance from the Holy Spirit, our senior pastor of 33 years has felt it is time to prepare for the end of this season of ministry. Our church is ready to begin a period of healthy transition as we follow God's lead to continue to grow in our mission of engaging people on the journey with Jesus. The unique position we are looking to fill would enable a candidate to work alongside and be mentored by a spiritually mature, well-respected senior pastor. He has helped prepare other assistant and youth pastors for lead pastor positions and is fully invested in this transition process. Spooner Wesleyan has a trusted, positive reputation in the community along with well established, mission-centered ministries serving our church, community, and world. This solid foundation will provide the groundwork for our next leader to use their spiritual gifts to help our church grow into the next level of fulfilling its mission. 

Essential Strengths:

• Committed mature follower of Jesus Christ with consistent life of prayer and feeding from God’s Word
• Personal passion and commitment for evangelism, outreach, and discipleship 
• An effective preacher/teacher able to clearly and passionately communicate biblical truths that connect to both believers and non-believers
• Leadership development and shepherding of the staff, board, and volunteers
• Demonstrates dependence on the Holy Spirit in leading and empowering the ministry of the church

Professional qualifications:

• Alignment with Wesleyan theology
• Has a sound theological education with a minimum of a bachelor’s degree working towards a Master’s degree
• Must be ordained in the Wesleyan Church or willing to meet the educational requirements for ordination in the Wesleyan Church
• Strongly recommend the candidate has served a minimum of 3 years in a local church
