Sydenstricker United Methodist Church in Springfield, Va. is looking for a full or part time Director of Youth Ministries. This position is responsible for the planning, coordinating, leading and building all aspects of the youth ministry program for 7th through 12th grade. The principal function of this position is to help youth develop a strong relationship with Christ by serving as spiritual leader, mentor, and role model for youth. This position uses a comprehensive active approach involving missions, relationship building, and outreach. These programs should encourage youth by providing opportunities for spiritual nurture and growth and challenging them to respond to God’s call to serve the church, the community, and the world. There is no relocation allowance for this position.
Position Qualifications:
A professing Christian and member in good standing in a congregation
A bachelor’s degree or professional certification or in progress of United Methodist Certification in Education and/or Youth Ministries preferred but not required
Experience working with youth and volunteers in an education /church setting
Ability and experience to plan, develop/build, coordinate, manage, implement programs, fund raise, and lead youth activities
Work with the Director of Children and Family Ministries to develop a bridge program between the two programs for rising 5th and 6th grade students
Strong interpersonal skills and proven ability to work effectively with youth, children, parents, and teams of volunteers
Position Schedule
This position has a flexible schedule with some definite requirements:
Tuesday a.m. staff meeting
Weekly meeting with the youth group for chats and study groups, time and day to be determined
Sunday morning: 2 services and Sunday School for 7th – 12th grade
All special services/programs throughout the liturgical year
