GENERAL DESCRIPTION

The High School and Young Adult Director oversees all aspects of the High School Ministry (9-12th Grades) and Young Adult/College-aged Ministry (ages 18-25). This will require the heart and skills to bring the love and truth of Jesus to the next generation through the mission of Lighthouse Christian Center. This position is responsible for revitalizing and rebuilding a previously thriving High School Ministry and engaging the church youth and the local area. The Young Adult/College ministry is thriving and is one of the premier young adult ministries in the greater Puyallup area. This position will continue to develop, strategize, and actively reach out to the next generation to advance the Kingdom of God through the ministry of Lighthouse.

WORK SCHEDULE

· Weekend Worship Services

· Monday and Wednesday evening meetings

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

· Oversee the implementation of Lighthouse Christian Center’s vision in the High School and Young Adult Ministry.

· Organize and implement weekly High School and weekly Young Adult meetings.

· Work to involve High School students and young adults in Christ-centered community through small groups.

· Plan and implement High School and Young Adult ministry events, camps, and retreats.

· Invest in relationships with High School Students and Young Adults involved in the ministry.

· Manage High School and Young Adult ministry budgets.

· Recruit, develop, and lead a team of volunteer leaders for High School and young adult ministry.

· Demonstrate a track record of spiritual maturity and Christ-like character.

· Bring creativity to the group environments.

· Be self-motivated, not needing micromanagement, yet loves to live life with a team.

· Be passionate about discipleship and leadership development.

COMPETENCIES

The ideal candidate should have a strong background in working with youth and young adults. They should have a love and passion for reaching young people and understanding how to build connections with the next generation. They know and can articulate how the hope of the Gospel addresses the current cultural challenges young people face. They can teach and disciple in a developmentally appropriate way and be committed to the spiritual growth of the youth and young adults. They will help both churched and un-churched young people to know the love of God and grow in faith.

· Skilled Relator– Strong focus on building and maintaining healthy relationships; Effectively resolves conflicts, not blaming; maintains confidentiality; listens to others without interrupting; self-regulates emotions; displays a willingness to listen and try others’ ideas.

· Effective Communicator- Speaks clearly and with love in all situations; listens and seeks out clarification; actively seeks out others’ points of view; responds well to questions; engages participants in meetings. Utilizes technology to communicate with youth, families, and young adults effectively.

· Servant Leader- Balances team and individual responsibilities; exhibits objectivity and openness to others’ views; gives and welcomes feedback; contributes to building a positive team spirit; puts success of team above own interests; encourages others; leads teams in creating group commitments to goals and objectives; supports everyone’s efforts to succeed; Asks for and offers help when needed. Undertakes personal and professional growth activities.

· Change Management - Develops workable implementation plans; communicates changes effectively; builds commitment and overcomes resistance; prepares and supports those affected by change.

· Ethical Leader- Treats people with respect; inspires the trust of others; keeps commitments; maintains confidentiality; and works with integrity in all aspects of the job. Follows policies and procedures; completes administrative tasks correctly and on time; supports church’s goals and values.

REQUIRED CRITICAL SKILLS, TRAINING AND EDUCATION

A mature, strong, and growing relationship with Jesus, a heart for the local church, and a passion to see the next generation transformed by the Gospel.

· Ministry experience leading a High School or Young Adult/College Ministry

· Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent church experience.

· Demonstrate a calling to Pastoral Ministry.

· Agrees and aligns with the vision, values, and doctrinal Statement of Beliefs of Lighthouse Christian Center. (https://www.lighthousehome.org/about/values-beliefs.html)

PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS

· Three years of experience leading in a Student or Young Adult/College Ministry of over 300 in a church of at least 850 people.

· Bachelor’s Degree in a Ministry-related field.

· Experience preaching in a large group (at least 200 people) service environment.

· Working knowledge of Planning Center Online.

· Experience recruiting, training, and leading an effective volunteer team.

· Experience planning and facilitating training, large events, and retreats.

· Experience managing a ministry budget.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand and walk and will occasionally be required to do some light lifting (up to 25 pounds).

PERSONAL LIFE REQUIREMENTS (POST-HIRE)

The High School and Young Adult Director must become a committed member of Lighthouse Christian Center. They must pursue an active relationship with Jesus that includes a consistent personal devotional life and prayer. They must be committed to their family, attend church regularly, and live their life in a manner consistent with the Scripture. They must be a part of an LCC community.
